The Narcotics law (Federal Law No. 14 of 1995 ) prohibits the production, import, export, transport, buying, selling, possessing, storing of narcotic and psychotropic substances unless done so as part of supervised and regulated medical or scientific activities in accordance with the applicable laws. Punishments according to Schedule 10 of the Narcotics Law, violating the provisions related to Articles 10 and 11 would result in penalties of not less than 7 or 10 years of imprisonment and fines depending on the nature of the narcotic/psychotropic substances.   Depending upon the magnitude of the case accused may be sentenced to lifetime imprisonment as well.

 

Also, Article 57 of the Narcotics Law further provides that if the crimes related to violations of Article 10/11 are committed with the intent of trafficking or promotion, or the accused belongs to a hostile group or organized gang, or works for its benefit, the death penalty could be imposed.

 

Since 07th November 2020, the UAE removed the law which stated anyone consuming alcohol should be in possession of an alcohol license. Therefore, it no longer require a license to consume or possession of alcohol in the UAE.  However to purchase you still need one. ( individuals must still be over the age of 21 and non-Muslim).

 

Question 3: is it illegal to promote or publications Images of drugs in UAE?

 

People who wear clothes or place stickers on their vehicles that display images of drugs, such as marijuana leaves, can be punished under UAE’s new drug law. This could land you with a hefty fine of  AED5,000 and a jail sentence of up to 2 years (if the offender repeats the violation).
